EXTEND Strides Out

Every 5 years the members of the CCPR Movement and Dance Division are invited to take part in a celebration of movement and dance at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2000 Seona Ross choreographed a piece using pom – poms and in 2005 she incorporated seated theraband work alongside moving work to ‘Besame Mucho’. The show this year will be on September 25th 2010, 22 teachers (including a Vice President of EXTEND), 34 EXTENDers (including the chairman of Trustees) will be marching EXTEND style to Richard Waterer’s Royal Salute.

The item is a kaleidoscope of activity, and the team is positively glowing with excitement. EXTEND is not just about ‘exercise’ but it is about being part of something, for the majority of the performers this is their chance in a lifetime to do something they never thought they would be able to do. I hope that teachers, family, friends and EXTENDers will be able to travel to the Royal Albert Hall to see us perform.

ON SHOW – BRINGING DANCE TOGETHER

Shall I dance? Shall you dance? Shall we dance?
History shows dance portraying human emotions throughout the ages and today it is recognised as being one of the most valuable recreative activities within communities, bringing physical, mental and social benefits to participants.
Life with little or very restricted movement is essentially difficult, but Dance Voice demonstrates that with skilled and dedicated assistance, even those with the most challenging conditions can take part in an uplifting (literally) experience at the Royal Albert Hall. Theirs will be one of the most welcome items at this widely anticipated event.
The show will bring those at the pinnacle of professional expertise in ballroom and Latin American - young, vibrant dancers with the world at their feet to the very mature, but still enthusiastic, members of the Extend Team, demonstrating the worth and value of continuing to enjoy an active lifestyle made possible by being involved in a very active group.
Creativity demonstrated by Swamp Circus will be complemented by the much-loved traditional folk dances from around the world, performed with style and vigour by well-known national organisations.
Fitness through exercise, movement and dance will once again be well demonstrated by founder members of the CCPR, showing that excellence has been maintained and built upon for 75 years, bringing huge benefits to all its members throughout that period.
The historic style and elegance of the Dolmetsch Society will be a contrast to the exuberance and verve of the young cheerleaders from all over the country, whilst street dance and freestyle dance will add to the excitement.
Guest items will include gymnastics, children from the Royal Ballet, a huge team of children dancing to a Caribbean theme, Indian dancers with traditional styles, and there may well be one or two surprises within the programme.
And the music……… varying from the slow sensuous throb of the rumba, the passion of Strauss contrasted with that of Whitney Houston, the exhilaration of a selection of Latin dance styles, the grandeur of Handel, plus some items with live music infectious in its rhythms. The overall effect will be dynamic, energetic, and unforgettable both for the audience, the participants and everyone involved in this wonderful show.
Such an event is very special, commemorating the dedication and devotion of producers throughout the years. Inevitably it will be an emotional occasion, but also it will confirm the intent of CCPR to continue its involvement in all activities within all communities, as envisaged by its founder, Phyllis Colson over 75 years ago.
