The benefits of doing regular exercise include a reduced risk of: heart disease, stroke, bowel cancer, breast cancer, osteoporosis, and obesity. In addition, many people feel better in themselves. Regular exercise is also thought to help ease stress, anxiety, and mild depression.

Patient UK and NetFit both give information relating to health and exercise.

Challenging Osteoporosis

Extend maintains close links with the National Osteoporosis Society in order to play its part in improving the mobility and well-being of people with osteoporosis who attend EXTEND classes.

Gentle movement to music has great benefits for those who are affected by this disease.  Great care is taken in the design of exercise routines to ensure that they are in line with the latest medical and scientific guidance for people who are affected by osteoporosis.

City & Guilds

During 2004/2005 Extend has achieved the accolade of City and Guilds Awarding Body approval as a centre for 3136 Certificates for Enhancing Movement in Older People.  The City and Guilds is a nationally recognised standard qualification that allows Extend teachers to work anywhere in the UK.

I applaud and vigorously support the objectives and work of EXTEND. The benefits of dance and co-ordinated exercise to music are broad and far-reaching throughout life, but particularly in our later years.
The work promoted and fostered by EXTEND has physical, social, psychological and cultural value, but above all, it is fun, and therefore likely to have a positive and lasting impact on the quality of life of older individuals.
I am an enthusiastic advocate of all that EXTEND stands for and wish all its trainers and participants every success as they continue their vital work.

Diana Moran While health educators, medical professionals and government have only recently appreciated the need to enhance fitness levels throughout our population, EXTEND has been active for many years.  Like me, many of their instructors have devoted lifetimes to the improvement of individual fitness in people with widely differing abilities. Theirs is a contribution whose value cannot be overstated. Long may they and EXTEND continue.
